Julian’s focus had been dwindling. At first, she assumed Mr. Vance’s droning about derivative notation was the cause. Then she blamed the lulling patter of rain upon the windows. The twinge of uneasiness she had felt this morning had now grown to an unshakable distraction.
A bead of sweat rolled down her brow. The cooling sensation it left as it trailed down her cheek alerted her to her high fever. Julian quickly covered her flushed cheeks with her hands. From the dull burn, she could tell it had been rising for a while.
